Spider-Man: Turn Off the Road Tour
By Richard Amada on Nov 9, 2011 | In Performing Arts
Just when perhaps you were thinking the much-jinxed Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, had finally turned the corner on its many well-publicized mishaps and missteps, there’s a whole new legal issue in the courts that threatens to keep any road tour productions of the show stuck in the web.
Julie Taymor, the show’s original director and one of its creators, is reportedly suing the producers of the show for a million dollars. Ms. Taymor, who was fired from the production last March as part of a major overhaul of the show that broke all records for costs and for having the longest preview run in Broadway history, claims the show continues to use, without compensation to her, many of the ideas she contributed to it.
Additionally, a Showbiz 411 article, reports that Ms. Taymor’s lawyers are also seeking an injunction that could keep the producers from launching a national touring production outside New York.
